'Sanctuary Counties' Declining Federal Detainer Requests
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issues requests (detainers) to local authorities to hold non-citizen inmates subject to removal so federal officials can take them into custody. Counties below (homes of so-called "Sanctuary Cities") limit or prohibit cooperation with ICE and are shaded by the number of detainers they declined between January 1, 2014 and September 30, 2015.
